Evaluation

I am pleased with everything I have been taught in my first project, I feel I have gained a great amount of knowledge and progressed very far as my skills have improved a lot from when I first started. I thoroughly enjoyed making use of the different techniques we were taught to create a variety of Elizabethan make-up designs. I also enjoyed researching into the Elizabethan make-up to see the designs they used to use and how I could use them myself and make them contemporary.

Unfortunately my partner was absent for a few weeks prior to our assessment so I didn’t have much of a clue of what I would be designing and I feel there was a lack of communication on her part because although she was absent I feel she still could have sent me her ideas via the internet so I could have had some practice but this was never done. However before my assessment I had some time to quickly run through Bethany’s design to get an idea of what I would be creating. I did find that I struggled slightly as Bethany’s notes were quite brief. However I feel I completed the assessment the best I could and although I didn’t get to have much practice before due to Bethany’s absence I feel the outcome was very successful as I managed to complete it as close to her design as possible. Overall I have thoroughly enjoyed this project and really looking forward to the gothic horror which is what we will be learning about next term.

Final Assessment - In the role of the make-up artist evaluation

This was my final assessment for make-up, I was very nervous because my partner was absent for a few weeks prior to my assessment so I was unable to practice as much as I would have liked but I did come prepared with everything I needed. Bethany wanted me to use a white base and create a heart around the outer side of the face. She also wanted pale eyes with a slight bit of mascara and a big heart shape on the lips which pointed down to the chin. Bethany originally wanted her eyebrows blocked out but because her eyebrows are very dark we decided to change it and she came up with an idea of having red, spiky looking eyebrows. To do this I just simply brushed upwards over the brows with a mascara brush. I feel the shape of the heart around the face could have been slightly darker to make it more defined and I also struggled a bit to create the heart shape around the lips as I had to get it just right without any smudges and I found it a bit fiddly. However I was very happy with the base as I feel I applied it well and blended it in properly.
Although Bethany changed the design last minute she did bring notes and a face chart in for me to follow, it wasn't as clear as I would have liked it to have been but it did help me a lot to follow what she wanted me to create.
Overall I am happy with the outcome although I do feel certain parts could have been improved if I was able to have more practise.

Final Assessment - In the role of the designer evaluation

This is my look which Bethany created on me. She never had much practise due to her absence; however I still think she managed to pull it off well. I did create quite a simple look for her design, mainly because she didn't have time to practise on me, I also gave her some clear instructions for her to follow with a step by step guide to enable her to get the right look. I think she applied the base very well and blended it nicely so there were no smudges, although I feel she should have applied it more to my neck as you are able to see where it stops. Also I feel she could have contoured my cheeks slightly darker like they were in my design. I thought Bethany also applied the lipstick well as I know it can be difficult to get a neat outline around the edge of the lips and make sure there aren't any smudges but I feel she was very careful and did a great job. I added three gems underneath my eyes either side to make it look more contemporary and Bethany applied them going down the face opposed to around the eyes like in my design, however I don't feel like this was much of a problem as I still think it looked good.
Overall I feel Bethany did a great job and she managed her time well. I was happy with the outcome and I feel she created my look well and managed to get as close to my design as possible.

This was my final design

Practising for my final assessment

Here I practised Bethany's design for my final assessment. She wanted me to apply a very pale base and create a heart shape around the face by contouring the cheeks and highlighting around the forehead. She wanted very pale eye make-up and for her eyebrows to be blocked out. On the lips she wanted a big heart shape which pointed right down to the chin. I got on fine with it all apart from blocking out the eyebrows which I struggled slightly with. This is because her eyebrows are very dark so it was difficult to cover them. However Bethany decided to change her design slightly to overcome this problem.

Elizabeth - The Golden Age

Elizabeth - Golden Age is a mystery and suspense/drama film and was brought out in November 2007. It's directed by Shekhar Kapur and written by Michael Hirst and William Nicholson.
This film is about the golden age finding Queen Elizabeth I facing blood-lust for her throne and familial betrayal. Elizabeth finds her rule openly challenged by the Spanish king Philip II with his powerful army and sea dominating armada trying their best to restore England to Catholicism. Elizabeth struggles to balance ancient royal duties with an unexpected vulnerability in her love for Sir Walter Raleigh. However he stays forbidden for a queen who has sworn body and soul to her country. Elizabeth then persuades her favourite lady in waiting Bess to befriend Raleigh and keep him near by, although this plan enables Elizabeth to see their growing intimacy. As she charts her course abroad, Sir Francis Walsingham keeps his masterful puppetry of Elizabeth's court at home and her campaign to solidify absolute power. Walsingham manages an assassination plot which could topple the throne but as he unmasks traitiors that may include Elizabeth's cousin Mary Stuart, without realising he sets England up for destruction.

My make-up design relates to the golden age film because of the pale white complexion, very light, fine eyebrows, pale eye make-up, rosey cheeks and the red lips.
